Synopsis
Tom “Boss” Slayden has a stranglehold on freight coming to and from Virginia City. The local shop owners have had enough and ask to Ben to speak to Slayden. After he confronts Slayden, Ben goes home and finds out that Joe has been shot by one of Slayden’s men. Ben presses charges and has Slayden arrested. Slayden then halts his freight operation, which puts a further strain on VC businesses. Things keep getting worse as Slayden’s hold on Virginia City grows stronger. The Cartwrights realise that it’s up to them to put a stop to Slayden.

Synopsis
Returning from a 15-day cattle drive Hoss makes a detour on his way home and finds himself in the middle of a siege. After being fired upon by three would-be gold robbers, Hoss ends up in the home of an old prospector named Obie and his dog Walter. Over the next couple of days, Hoss helps Obie out and finds that there seems to be more to Walter than meets the eye.

Synopsis
While in San Francisco, Ben runs into an old friend, Rita Marlowe. He is dismayed to see that she is now a singer at a saloon. After she collapses, Ben offers her a bargain – to come back with him to the Ponderosa for a month and he will give her some money to help get her life back on track. While in Virginia City she meets Mace Sindell, an ex-boxer, who falls for her. Mace’s old manager, Mr. Martin, wants Mace to fight one more time against Tiny Mack. Mace refuses and so Mr. Martin enlists the help of Rita. However, when Ben finds out what is going on, it looks like it’s up to him to stop the fight.

Synopsis
Adam meets Rebecca Kaufman, the daughter of a local peddler. He is immediately smitten and convinces his father to hold a party for the Kaufmans. On his way to Carson City to invite them, Adam is surprised to see they have stopped for the night. Aaron Kaufman is a devout Jew and keeps strictly to the rules of the Sabbath. However, shortly after Adam leaves, two robbers hold up the Kaufmans and it soon becomes apparent that Aaron may have to do something he never expected to do.
